Data Platform - Data Engineer

Data Platform Data Engineer

The data platform organization is focused on meeting the data needs of a growing engineering group at Vannevar Labs. Our focus is on making it easier for product engineers inside of Vannevar Labs to leverage a diverse and growing corpus of data, by building centralized data orchestration, data storage, and data serving infrastructure.  

You will be a part of a small team of 4-6 engineers focused on building robust data pipelines that process terabytes of structured and unstructured text, images, videos, and geospatial datasets. You’ll partner with Machine Learning Engineers to improve the quality and value proposition of our datasets through integration with ML services. You’ll also work closely with the Data Serving team to ensure data is available across an array of critical datastores for real time and asynchronous use cases. 

What You’ll Do 

• Develop robust data pipelines and infrastructure, with a focus on real-time processing, data integrity and data security.
• Design systems and solutions that allow for ease of integration of new datasets into the data platform.
• Maintain a keen eye on scalability, as our data holdings are constantly growing.
• Focus on the operational health of the systems you own, by constantly improving observability, reducing tech debt, and participating in the team’s on-call process. 

Qualifications 

• 2+ years of experience in software development building distributed data systems
• 2+ years of experience with real time processing and streaming technologies, like Redis streams, Kafka, AWS Kinesis, or others
• 2+ years of experience maintaining production data systems, including on-call and SRE support
• You must be a US resident or citizen. 

What we offer

The salary range for this position is $130,000 - $180,000 + equity + 401K match. Within the range, individual pay is determined by experience, relevant education, and/or training.
