The Opportunity
The Data Management Technical Lead plays a pivotal role in SAIT’s Data Governance Office by leading data management and governance activities. This role ensures data integrity, consistency, compliance and usability across the institution, leveraging the data management platform. The role oversees strategic solutions, including SAIT’s Data Catalog, Business Glossary, Reference Data Management, Master Data Management, and Data Quality, to support informed decision-making and operational efficiency. The position demands a blend of technical proficiency in data management tools and processes, leadership in data management and governance practices, and strong communication skills. Reporting to the Manager of the Data Governance Office, leads a small group of data analysts and also collaborates closely with various IT teams, project managers, and stakeholders to align data initiatives with organizational objectives while staying abreast of industry trends, fostering innovation and adherence to data standards.

The Role

  • Develop and implement SAIT's data management strategy and roadmap. Define data policies, standards, and best practices for data management and governance.
  • Oversee the implementation and operations of the institutional data management platform (Ataccama One). Manage configurations, implementations, and updates across all modules.
  • Lead the design, implementation and operations of Data Quality and Integrity solutions. Develop and monitor data quality metrics and improvement initiatives supporting business process efficiencies.
  • Lead the design, implementation and operations of the Master Data Management and Reference Data Management solutions. Support data consistency and deduplication across systems and business processes.
  • Lead the implementation and operations of the institutional Data Catalog and Business Glossary. Align data definitions and standards across SAIT.
  • Document data architecture standards, designs, and processes.
  • Lead and coordinate institutional Data Governance activities. Contribute to the Data Governance Program by coordinating and chairing DG working sessions and DG Operating Committee meetings.
  • Staff supervision, mentoring, coaching, goal setting, and priority setting.
  • Facilitate and coordinate the collaboration and communication between business users, IT teams, data analysts, data engineers and stakeholders to improve data efficiency, quality, and value.
  • Drive innovation in Data Management. Stay current with industry trends and advancements in emerging data technologies to enhance data management and governance capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Required   
  • A post-secondary degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in data management, governance, or a related field, with direct experience implementing and managing data management platforms (e.g., Ataccama One, Collibra, Informatica).
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience leading data specialists
  • Designing and implementing data policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and maintaining Master Data Management (MDM) and Reference Data Management (RDM) solutions for ensuring data consistency.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading Data Quality and Data Integrity solutions to improve business processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and operationalizing Data Catalogs and Business Glossary to standardize data definitions across an organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in documenting data architecture standards, processes, and technical designs.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating and coordinating Data Governance activities, including working sessions and committee meetings.
  • Experience and familiarity with data reporting and analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar
  • Proven ability to react quickly under high development requests and adjust priorities accordingly
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
  • Experience implementing data innovation initiatives and staying current with emerging trends and technologies.
  • Good communication and public speaking skills in data-related events, workshops and meetings.

  • Preferred
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) by DAMA International
  • Data Governance and Stewardship Professional (DGSP) by the Data Governance Professionals Organization (DGPO).
  • ITIL Foundations Certification 
  • 5+ years of experience in data management lead roles in a large, complex organization, preferably in higher education
  • Significant hands-on experience with Ataccama One
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL language
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide Data Governance Programs, including data standards, stakeholder engagement, and operational oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in iterative and collaborative development environments following Agile or Scrum methodologies.
